ECET South presents
Lisa Burman
“I CAN READ!”
Building Strong Reading Identities in the Early Years
Reading is a complex process of constructing meaning. It begins
long before children can read conventional print – long before
they can decode words. This workshop will explore how
empowering it is to begin our intentional teaching from a reading
identity perspective – for children, families and educators.
You’ll learn ways to intentionally create opportunities for
children to:
– use their agency as readers
– meaningfully engage with texts in their play
– see themselves as readers and build a strong disposition to
engage with texts
– develop strategies for meaning making and oral language
composition with texts.
Please bring 3-4 picture books, including at least one information
book.
