A new report released by Tasmania’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Investing in the Wellbeing of Tasmania’s Children and Young People (PDF, 7MB) proposes that to improve the wellbeing of Tasmania’s children, it needs to be at the centre of government policy and decision making through the establishment of a whole-of-government strategy.
The report suggests a new way forward, where we think differently and invest differently. Despite significant focus and investment over several decades, there remain long-standing factors, often influenced by intergenerational poverty and trauma, poor health and low educational outcomes and now climate change, which affect children’s wellbeing now and will continue to do so, unless we prioritise improvement and act accordingly.
